Many brave youth from Jammu region who joined Army, BSF, CRPF and Police laid down their lives fighting the terrorists and the enemies, and defending the frontiers. Their number runs into thousands. Jammu region is a region of brave hearts. It could be seen from the fact that it was Jammu which expanded its frontiers to Ladakh, Gilgit, Hunza, Baltistan, Nagar, Yasin, to mention only a few in those days when there were hardly any means of communication. It can also be seen from the fact that Jammu produced two of the four most renowned Generals - Jorawar Singh and Baz Singh. On Wednesday, Jammu witnessed an inspiring scene when the visiting actor Nana Patekar met the family of martyr Gurnam Singh, BSF constable who laid down his life on October 21 while fighting the enemy and defending the border in the strategic Samba sector. The brother and sister of Gurnam Singh told Patekar that they wished to follow in the footsteps of their brother and wanted to join the BSF so that they could also defend the country like their brother. "We wish to join the BSF to serve the nation and safeguard our border like my brother," Gurnam's sister Gurjeet Kaur told Patekar during the interaction. Not only Gurjeet Kaur, her brother Manjeet Singh also expressed the same sentiment. The moved Pateker in response said: "You are family of a brave hearts. The nation salutes you. We are proud of you. He was the real hero". See the spirit. They had just lost their brother but that martyrdom instead of demoralizing them had their resolve to fight for the nation. Manjeet asking Patekar for recruitment to the BSF was quite understandable and inspiring. But what was most inspiring was the fighting spirit of Gurjeet Kaur. Jammu salutes Gurnam Singh, Gurjeet Kaur, Manjeet Singh and their patents. Nation is surviving and thriving because of such people. |
