Mendhar, Nov 17: The Press Council of Mendhar Poonch observed National Press Day as National Demands Day. The members of the PCMP demanded setting up of all Media council to replace the toothless Press Council. They also demanded setting up of a Media Commission through an Act of parliament, taking into account the multifaceted media that has taken shape, on the lines of the first and second Media Commissions.
PCMP said that the current policy has reduced journalists to victims of bonds of contract in the wake of the wide spread changes in the media since the onset of globalization. Calling for the widest possible unity of journalists' bodies, the PCMP has demanded setting of a Media Council ,setting up of a Media Commission, amend the Working Journalists Act to bring in the entire media under its orbit, end contract labour in the industry, put curbs on cross media ownership, immediate steps to help the growth of national language news and feature agencies ,implement the Wage Board Recommendations and proper Insurance and Pension scheme for journalists & press workers. |
