Early Times Report

JAMMU, Nov 25: The Centre is maintaining a close vigil on the activities of bank officials in Kashmir Valley following recent militant attacks on two bank branches in the state and one abortive bid on another branch in Kishtwar area of Jammu region.
Sources said recovery of two currency notes of Rs 2000 from a militant in Kupwara few days ago and looting of two bank branches is hinting at the possible link of some insiders in the bank with terrorists.
Sources said the terrorists who received a severe jolt after the demonetization of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 currency notes are desperately trying to loot the bank branches. The terrorist outfits and their sponsors across the border are facing shortage of money to run the so-called movement.
Sources said to provide oxygen to militancy in the Valley, Pakistan and its Inter Service Agency (ISI) has given directives to militant outfits to loot the bank branches especially in remote areas where there is less guard of police and security forces. To put the same formula into practice the terrorists have started attacking bank branches and looting money.
However, sources said the role of some insiders in looting of banks has not been ruled out by the government agencies and they are watching the same.
Sources said security agencies have been put on alert to by the Centre to unmask those elements who are involved in the nexus, and the state government was also asked by the Centre to ensure security of bank branches in the state to thwart the gameplan of terrorists.
Moreover, sources said the monitoring of notes is also under proper scrutiny as the Centre has received a feedback that in some branches of Valley huge currency notes were exchanged.
Sources said the Income Tax Department has also been asked to maintain a watch on all accounts and transactions to make ensure that undue advantage was not given to any person for converting his huge amount of black money into white.
Sources said besides the separatists and terrorist outfits politicians are also under scanner.
