Medicos smell rat in faculty recruitment as SKIMS 'secretly' changes eligibility criteria
11/25/2016 11:37:28 PM

Early Times Report
srinagar, Nov 25: The medicos who had applied for the post of faculty at SK institute of Medical Science Soura here smell as rat in the selection process as the SKIMS authorities have "secretly changed the criteria to accommodate influential candidates."
Officials said the SKIMS had advertised faculty posts vide advertisement No 7 of 2016 dated September 5, 2016 and some other notifications. The openings were called for several posts including that of Assistant Professor.
While scores of candidates have applied for the post, a shocker came some days back when some of the applicants received intimation from the SKIMS that they were not eligible for the post.
Officials said the candidates were informed that those who do not have "publications in indexed medical journals were not eligible for the interview."
As per officials the "self-styled change in eligibility criteria" brazenly violates the Medical Council of India guidelines. "As per the MCI guidelines, publications are not needed for the post of Assistant Professor. This for sure has been done to benefit some influential candidates," said the sources.
"For entry level there are no such requirements, nor any such criteria was announced at the time of advertisement," admitted a senior medico working at the SKIMS.
The aggrieved candidates, who have received such intimations said what has furthered their woes is that the hospital authorities are unwilling to listen to them. "We tried to contact the SKIMS bosses but we couldn't get appointment as the 'Sahib' was busy in talking to some brother, who has been allotted contracts," the candidates said.
Sources said concerned have kept the SKIMS Governing Body in dark over the issue of "secret change in selection criteria as most of the medicos would have objected to any such bizarre move."
Despite repeated attempts Director SKIMS Dr AG Ahangar didn't respond to phone calls.
But a senior official said: "Actually there's some confusion in the minds of the applicants and we will clear it in the coming days."
Meanwhile the applicants have sought personal intervention of Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti who is also the Chairperson of the SKIMS Governing Body.
