Early Times Report

Jammu, Dec 2: S. O. S. International - An Organization for PoK Displaced Persons welcomed the Central Cabinet decision for passing Rs 2000 crore package for PoK refugees besides he made it clear that this is not last leaf but just a first one of the volume.
While addressing a press conference, S. O. S. International chairman, Rajiv Chuni said that the struggle is not over as it is not a big victory but a small one and the struggle of S. O. S. International will carry on until the final goal and absolute justice is achieved adding, that it is just a beginning not conclusion.
Talking to media persons, Chuni said that weird and apathetic behavior of Government can be gauged by the fact that two years back on October 2014, State Cabinet had passed a package for PoK refugees consists of Rs 25 lakh per family, reservation to the wards of PoK refugees in professional and technical colleges across the country, employment package for the unemployed youths in Government jobs etc and sent it to centre for approval.
"Parliamentary Committee found Rs 25 lakh insufficiënt and had recommended Rs 30 lakh instead of proposed Rs 25 lakh. "After an year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to Kashmir on November 7, 2015 announced mere Rs 2000 crore instead of Rs 9096 crore.
He did not announce other points of package. Moreover, it is quite strange that it took one more year to Modi Government to get nod of Cabinet i.e. on November 30, 2016.
The PoK refugees who have been facing the apathy of various successive Governments since 1947 and the said amount must be taken as just an installment.
The very strange fact is that how cruel has been the attitude of Government towards PoK refugees and Government should not keep misunderstanding that it will cheat PoK refugees by calling it one time settlement package.
It would like to tell Government that final settlement will be done when Government will decide PoK issue once for all. PoK refugees have well understood the gimmicks of Government and they will not let Government to exploit them anymore", he added.
S. O. S. International chairman further stated that exclusion of 5300 PoK refugees families is unfortunate on the part of Government because after forceful migration they were given shelter outside Jammu and Kashmir by State and Central Government by counting several constraints.
The then State and Central Government settled these 5300 families in various parts of country as the whole chunk of PoK refugees could not be accommodated in Jammu and Kashmir. It is hard to understand that now why have they been excluded from the package? It is unacceptable to S. O. S. International and their exclusion from the package seems another deceptive tactic of Government and S. O. S. International will fight tooth and nail to get them their due justice', he stated. He further said that for the last 7 decades PoK refugees have seen very tough times and this package vindicated that PoK refugees were kept in doldrums.
Others present were Prof. JS Mangal, Prof. MN Sharma, Roshan Lal all vice-chairman, VK Datta, Tarvinder Singh and Sat Paul Lakha all secretary.
