Campaigning for Jammu-Poonch seat lacks traditional hustle and bustle | | | Kunal Shrivatsa JAMMU, Apr 1: Even as only nine days are left for the Jammu-Poonch Parliamentary seat to go for polling, the electioneering for this seat by and large has yet to gain a momentum and so far it remained dull as big wigs/heavy weights from different political parties missed the campaign in Jammu city. The typical hustle-bustle associated with an election campaign particularly with the Lok Sabha poll is hardly reflected this time around especially in Jammu city which has the distinction of being the epicenter for all the major mainstream parties including Congress, Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP), Peoples' Democratic Party (PDP) and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) to launch and extend their political agendas in nook and corner of the region. The election process for the Jammu-Poonch Lok Sabha seat started on March 15 with the issuance of poll notification. While the last date for filing of nominations was March 22, the scrutiny was done on March 24 and the last date for withdrawal of candidature was March 26, the poll canvassing in the summer capital city of the state has still not peaked as all the major political parties are yet to use a political platform as big as Jammu city. With the exception of BSP Supremo Mayawati, who addressed a rally here today at Parade Ground in favour of her party's candidate Ashok Bhagat, no other political party be it Congress, BJP or PDP have thus far held a big political rally to show their strength and to woo the sizeable number of voters residing in and around Jammu city in particular and Jammu district in general. The star campaigners from Congress, BJP and PDP are yet to touch the ground zero in Jammu city from where a political wave moves in all directions of Jammu-Poonch parliamentary constituency. The importance of Jammu city, which is one of the deciding factor in winning and loosing, could be gauged from the fact that political big wigs from all the major political parties especially national parties in the past had come all the way from Delhi to campaign for their candidates but even after fifteen days of electioneering no star campaigner either from Congress or BJP has turned up to boost the prospects of their respective candidates. Though state BJP utilized the services of party's star campaigner and its Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi by holding an election rally on March 26 at Hiranagar in Kathua district, bordering Samba district, which is part of Jammu-Poonch Lok Sabha seat. Even 'NaMo' show by the saffron party cannot be bracketed as exclusive election rally for Jammu-Poonch constituency as it was held at Hirangar mainly to focus Udhampur-Doda-Kathua Lok Sabha seat. However, the Congress has yet to invite its star campaigners from Delhi to hit the campaign trail in the city of temples in a bid to turn the wave in Congress candidate's favour.
