As Dr Farooq Abdullah drops one bomb after other, election authorities continue to be in deep sleep mode | Wants bombs, bullets to wipe out PDP | | Jehangir Rashid SRINAGAR, Apr 20: Over the past one week or so, National Conference President, Dr. Farooq Abdullah has issued two statements that could have easily landed him into trouble but Alas! That was not to be, thanks to the non-seriousness of election authorities of Jammu & Kashmir. Dr. Farooq Abdullah who is the National Conference-Congress coalition candidate for Srinagar-Budgam-Ganderbal Lok Sabha seat virtually dropped a bombshell when he held People’s Democratic Party responsible for the militant attack on the Youth National Conference leader, Yawar Masoodi's residence at Pampore on Sunday last (April 13). The statement was startling since it was directed towards a party that ruled the state for more than five and half years. Holding PDP responsible for the militant attack meant that PDP leaders are in league with the militant and militant organizations. This is a serious allegation and should have been taken serious by the authorities entrusted with the responsibility of ensuring fair play during electioneering. Needless to mention here that PDP Patron, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed served as Home Minister of the country and attack on party headed by him is an attack on the institution of Home Ministry of the country. The attack on the home Ministry too has failed to move the election authorities of the state with no reprimand issued to the National Conference President. As if this statement was not enough, Dr. Abdullah went a step ahead and while taking to journalists at Rajbagh here he said that if he would have the resources he would have killed all the PDP leaders with bombs and bullets. Such a statement is non-sense and more so when it comes from a person who heads the oldest regional party of Jammu & Kashmir. Dr. Abdullah who is the Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy seems to have forgotten certain ethics related with politics more so when you are attacking your opponents. As has been in the past, principles and ethics seem to have taken a backstage with respect to the approach adopted by the NC President. The role of the Jammu & Kashmir Police in the second matter is also questionable since despite the lodging of complaint no First Information Report (FIR) has been filed against Dr. Abdullah at the Rajbagh police station. The police do not waste any opportunity in filing an FIR in a case that may be trivial in nature. But they surrender in doing so when it comes to booking high profile political personalities like Dr. Abdullah. The election authorities of the state are also not ready to take a chance and take Dr. Abdullah to task since they cannot displease the former political bosses of the state. The election authorities of the state should have taken a cue from Election Commission of India (ECI). The ECI debarred BJP's Amit Shah and SP's Azam Khan in carrying out election rallies after their objectionable speeches during election campaign. |
