Basant Panchami celebrated with high zeal | | | Early Times Report
Kathua, Jan 24: Basant Panchami celebrated with high religious zeal and enthusiasm across the state including District Kathua where after worship of Goddess Sarawati, people celebrated the day with flying kites. The significance of the day lies in the worship of Goddess Saraswati, symbol of wisdom and also the onset of spring season. Basant Panchami is an important Indian festival celebrated every year in the month of Magh according to the Hindu calendar. It is celebrated on the fifth day of Magh in the months of February or March according to the Gregorian calendar. Youths flew kites and try to cut down the kites of neighbor, enthusiasm was in air. Youths installed music system on the roof and spent huge amount to celebrate the function. People wore Yellow clothes and prepared yellow rice to eat which have its own significance on Basant Panchami. Simranjeet, a kite flyer, said Basant Panchami is his foremost favorite festival which gives him an opportunity to fly kites high in the sky and to dominate his friends by cutting their kites. Many shops were celebrated on the eve and huge business on Kite flying festival has done. |
