Equipment gathers dust, expired medicines being given, alleges students | JU has understaffed sick hospital | | Avinash Azad Early Times Report JAMMU, Jan 24: Established to tackle any emergency hospital in university of Jammu itself is sick for adequate manpower and equipment. An insider informed Early Times that two years back an X-ray machine was installed in the health centre, but not a single X-ray has been conducted so far. "Six months ago, the JU authorities had appointed a technician on contract bases (a retired technician). But due to shortage of allied materials like films, not a single x-ray has been conducted since then", sources claimed. They further said that like x-ray machine, ultra sound machine worth lacs is also laying idle in the health centre. "To run understaffed health centre, the JU authorities however, outsourced a technician, but the expenditure proves fruitless, as he visits once a week to perform ultra sound tests", they added. The sources further said that auto analyser was also procured to perform clinical tests, but the test being performed manually. Astonishingly, there is only one doctor for students and faculty of entire university. "One Assistant Surgeon and one Dentist is there for treatment of thousands of students in the campus. But in case of emergency especially in night, you find no doctor and one has to go GMC or Gandhi Nagar Hospital", said a scholar, adding that there are six hostels in University campus, where hundreds of students and scholars are residing on the mercy of god. He further said that JU should employ a physician at least to over-come any emergency. "There are only three posts of Pharmacists in health centre, two permanent and one is on contract. Both permanent pharmacists are office bearers of JU NGEU, and spend their maximum times in union office instead of their jobs", he added. The scholar also alleged that sub-standard and expired medicines are being given, if one visits the health centre. They demanded that the authorities should arrange doctors and other staff for night duty also. Registrar, University of Jammu, Prof Manoj K Dhar didn't picked the call for his comment. However, PRO to Vice Chancellor Secretariat, Imran Farooq was also not available for comment. |
