Army organizes eye camp | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Jan 24: Army today organized a week long surgical eye camp here at Military Hospital Akhnoor. According to press release, the main objective to organizes the camp fulfilling the 'Right to Sight' for all, an initiative conceptualized to provide advanced state-of-the-art tertiary medical care to the civilian and ex servicemen at the doorsteps of the needy in remote areas within the Army's Northern Command Zone. The eye camp which concluded today combined the twin objectives of providing assistance to the civilians of the remote border areas under Sadbhavana project as well as to the ESMs of the area. Eye teams from Command Hospital (Northern Command), 166 MH and 150 GH provided expert OPD services encompassing consultation, remedial measures and dispensing of medicines. After screening 372 patients for suitability for surgery, a total of 94 eye cases were operated by Col VK Baranwal, Lt Col Mariam Mathew and Maj Shailesh Mogra, Eye specialists of Command Hospital, 166 MH and 150 GH respectively by modern state of the art phacoemulsification cataract surgery with implantation of imported US FDA approved premium foldable Intra Ocular Lens. Anaesthesia support was provided by Maj Ritesh Dubey. A phenomenal response was noted amongst the patients and their attendants. All cases were successful and gained good visual recovery. The valedictory ceremony was graced by Col AK Sharma (Col Medical). He promised that such events will be done more frequently for benefit of the ESM. Col Amitabh Tiwari, CO 170 MH praised the effort and professionalism exhibited by one and all. |
