GCW Gandhinagar hosts 'Tree talk' to mark Basant Panchmi | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 24: To celebrate Vasant Panchami - the onset of Spring season, 328th Tree Talk was organized in collaboration with NSS unit and Department of Botany Govt College for Women (GCW) Gandhi Nagar here today. Programme started with Sarswati vandana followed by various events with focus on cultural and ecological issues. The occasion also witnessed visuals of events related to new initiation like child education and holy Vasant raga at shri Harmandir Sahib. Principal GCW Gandhinagar, Prof Kiran Bakshi emphasized upon use of plant based colours for house during Holi festivity. O P Sharma while highlighting inputs on Tree Talk campaign in Jammu and Kashmir and highlighted trees and shrubs which have miraculous medicinal and healing powers. He appealed the people to grow more plants so as to maintain eco balance in surroundings Prof Bholanath Sharma spoke on the significance of Khejri tree in Indian culture and said it draws its roost with over 600 years ago when some 300 inhabitants of village Khejarli in Rajasthan sacrificed their lives to save trees from getting chopped down by contractors. In her address Prof Sangita Nagari focused on golden blooms of mountain which signify onset of spring and finds mention in folk songs and music. Prof Suman Bala. Prof Tahira Firdaus and NSS incharge Dr Shiveta Gandotra and 50 NSS volunteers from college also participated in this ceremony. A colourful cultural programme was also presented by college students. |
