| Mehbooba to attend Prez's banquet for Obama | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 25: The President of the People’s Democratic Party Mehbooba Mufti is among a few influential people who have been invited for the banquet hosted by the President for the visiting US President Barack Obama.
Mehbooba Mufti who was elected PDP president on Saturday, was extended invitation by the President office, which according to the sources, was accepted by her. The invitation is also a reflection of the fact that BJP led Central government has finally decided to have an alliance with the PDP and wants to have cordial relation with the party.
Sources said leaders in New Delhi believe that Mehbooba Mufti has emerged as one of the most powerful and influential female leaders in the country and deserves the invitation.
She had campaigned hard and had led her party to its highest ever tally and brought the PDP in reckoning for the governance. The sources said she was invited to show the strength of the Indian democracy and also political emancipation of the females in the India, where US is still lacking.
Mehbooba Mufti has also slowly established good equation with the top BJP leadership, which has also acknowledged her leadership qualities.
The invitation was always on the cards and for the consideration but was formally extended after the party patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed formally announced that PDP is holding talks with the BJP on the government formation in J&K.
The announcement also gives an opportunity to the Modi government that it has partner in democracy with the Muslim majority party having a mandate from a Muslim majority state of the India which is the only of its kind in the country. |
