12 years on no election held in Chamber of Commerce Industries | | | Udhampur, Jan 25 : Majority of traders and businessmen here have alleged, that president Chamber of Commerce Industries (CCI) for not holding election of chamber from the last twelve years. Traders of Udhampur city today demanded fresh membership drive for conducting smooth and fair elections of chamber Talking to media, local businessman Vikram Slathia alleged that chamber of commerce is working in autocratic way and despite request of majority of traders to launch membership drive to include new businessmen in chamber body. President despite receiving applications from traders couple of years ago has failed to include traders as members. He added that he along with other businessmen had applied with president for membership in 2006 but till date they have not been given membership which show dictatorship of chamber body . Majority of other traders Anil Arora and Ashok Kumar have also alleged that after building pressure from traders now chamber has decided to hold elections after 12 years but it is quite amazing that chamber is considering only 273 members for voting which had been included as members 12 years before which is totally unfair practice with thousands of business men working in the district. They added that chamber should first of launch membership drive and then conduct elections so that true and transparent representation could be given to every businessmen who eagerly waiting for elections from last 12 years . Traders have also threatened to boycott such polls if held without launching membership drive first they added . |
