Academic Arrangement teachers start hunger strike | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar 14: Hundreds of Academic Arranged Teachers (AAT) for the year 2014 today started hunger strike outside press club Jammu, demanding continuation of their services. Scores of AAT teachers gathered outside Press Club Jammu and staged protest demonstration in favour of continuation of their services. The protesters were of the view that they were appointed on the basis of merit vide state Govt order no 482- EDU of 2014 at vacant posts. However, the authorities have not issued any further order for the continuation of their service, resulting in panic among hundreds of serving temporary teachers. The agitated teachers said that they were selected on merit basis and B.Ed is primary eligibility and all the engaged teachers had eligibilities much higher than Rehbar-E-Talim teachers. "Before formation of government, the PDP as well as BJP leaders had assured for continuation of services and also to engage them under RET pattern, but after government formation, the PDP-BJP leaders are changing colours like chameleon", they said. "We are concerned as there has been no continuation order from the authorities yet. Our livelihood is totally dependent on this job and if authorities don't issue fresh orders of our continuation our family will face starvation" said an agitated temporary teacher. The agitated teachers strongly criticized the last night police lathicharge on them, when they were observing peaceful protest outside the residence of Education Minister Nayeem Akhter. As per teachers, condition of some of teachers, observing hunger strike deteriorated and were shifted to Government Medical College and Hospital Jammu for treatment. The teachers threatened to continue their hunger strike till their demands would not be addressed. |
