Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Mar 14: Newly appointed President of Jammu & Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (J&K PCC) Ghulam Ahmad Mir today said that the policy of the party depends upon the situation prevailing in the country. He said that party policy differs on issues while being in power and out of it. Talking to journalists here today, Mir said that there was no harm in asking for the mortal remains of Parliament attack convict Mohammad Afzal Guru. He said issue is humanitarian one and needs to be looked in that perspective only without any political connotation. "There is no doubt that our (Congress) party adopts different course of action while in power and out of power. We had to take the decision of executing Guru since we were in government at that time. Now since we are out of power I don't see any issue in asking for the mortal remains of Guru," said Mir. The J&K PCC Chief came in defence of the five legislators of the party who had recently written to the central government to hand over the mortal remains of parliament attack convict to his family members. He claimed that central leadership of Congress also wants that Guroo's mortal remains should be handed over to his family members and said that there is no confusion in this regard. Earlier addressing a function at the party headquarters, Mir accused the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) of victimizing former Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh in the coal scam. He claimed that former Prime Minister has a clean image and nobody can dent the same. "Everybody in the country knows that Dr. Singh is an honest and upright man. He is being falsely implicated in the coal scam under a well knit plan hatched by BJP. All the Congress leaders and workers would come on roads if the case against the former Prime Minister is not dropped immediately," said Mir. Referring to the clash of ideologies of BJP and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the J&K PCC Chief said that one of the coalition partners wants due respect to the national flag with the other pitching for upholding the sanctity of state flag as compared to the national flag. He accused the BJP of dividing the country in the name of religion. "Despite tall claims the BJP-PDP government has forgotten about the plight of flood affected people. There is no word about unemployment with the widows being left to the mercy of the God. Basic amenities are not being provided to the people. These are all issues which we need to cash in if we want to corner the government," said Mir. The PCC Chief referred to the Groupism in the party and said that the groupism has damaged the image of the party. He said that he has been a victim of the conspiracies within the party as well. He claimed that had any other leader been appointed as PCC Chief Groupism would have surfaced once again. Former J&K PCC Chief, Prof. Saif-ud-din Soz who also spoke on the occasion said that no one in the country can abrogate Article 370 that gives special status to the Jammu & Kashmir state. He said that Congress is a secular party and the party gives respect to all citizens irrespective of the religion he or she belongs to.
