Now Mufti to focus on Jammu | | | Early Times Report
jammu, Mar 14: Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed sensing political backlash in the Jammu region after Kashmir centric statements and decisions has now decided to shift focus on the Jammu region. The CM has now decided to make Jammu specific statements. In a first sign of it, the CM who holds the portfolio of tourism has said Jammu should be developed as tourist destination. He made this statements twice, first even when chairing a meeting of the tourism department specifically for the Kashmir region. In another meeting he called for equitable distribution of the funds. It is for this reason the cabinet ministers from the Kashmir are also taking MoS from the Jammu region for important government meeting outside the State. Mufti Sayeed, a seasoned politician, who is also termed as canny politician, by the National conference, has deliberately set the political narrative focusing on the Kashmir to assuage their political sensitivities. Now having set the agenda, he is now trying to shift the focus to the Jammu region. The CM a seasoned politician knows that he can't antagonize the Jammu region on two accounts. First, he shares power with the BJP, which has got mandate from the Jammu region. Secondly, he knows that putting one region against other could be politically counterproductive, which he can ill afford. "The CM in his earlier stint as the CM tried to take Jammu on board. Even then he tried to accommodate the constituencies represented by the BJP. Now, that he is sharing the power with the BJP he will do it more this time," said a senior PDP leader. The CM is now trying to replicate this act after some teething problem. He will now try to push his deputy Nirmal Singh as the leader of the State and also of the Jammu in the Kashmir region, as it is unchartered territory for the B JP. "Mufti is working on a two pronged strategy. He is first establishing himself as the undisputed leader of the Kashmir then is slowly trying to build image in Jammu to replace PDP as an alternative to the Congress and this is his ultimate game plan," said a senior PDP leader. |
