Horticulture organizes training cum awareness program | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar 14 : Department of Horticulture Planning and Marketing organized a one-day Training cum Awareness Program at Kissan Ghar, Fruit Complex Narwal Jammu to aware traders as well as officers of the department about APMR Act and Rules and maintenance and cleanliness/ sanitation in Fruit Complex Narwal so as to avoid chances of spread of communicable diseases. Fruit complex is visited by 10,000-15000 people daily belonging to different classes viz., traders, farmers, transporters, laborers etc. Apart from the office bearers of Jammu fruit, vegetable associations and officers of the department, the gathering was addressed by Showkat Ahmad Khan Deputy Director HPM/ Chief Executive APMC Narwal, Kapil Sharma Joint Commissioner JMC and experts from the health department. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Arvind Raina Assistant Director Health that bi-annual camp might be organized by the Department of Horticulture Planning and Marketing in Fruit and Vegetable Market, Narwal to have health check-up of the stakeholders; he assured all types of support and help by the health department in this regard. He advised the vegetable traders to take special measures viz. wearing of hand gloves while handling with vegetables in the Fruit Complex so as to avoid the spread of infectious diseases. Dr. Ritu Gupta Medical Officer of Govt. dispensary in the fruit complex also spoke on the occasion and gave particular reference with regard to Narwal Mandi. Various officers of the department highlighted the importance and features of the APMR Act. Veerji Raina and Vice-President OP Sahni of Jammu Fruit Association also highlighted the importance of sanitation and highlighted some measures to be taken jointly by the department and the stakeholders like identification of dumping/ collection points and bifurcating the outsourcing of sanitation services for both the markets separately. He, also, made certain complaints about lacunas on part of JMC staff, especially with regard to clearance of malba and refund of malba security. Showkat Ahmad Khan assured to take care of interests of all the stake holders of fruit and vegetable terminal market which is face of Jammu with annual turnover of Rs. 800 crores. He exhorted all departmental officers to make this market a model market and provide all types of basic amenities viz., regular water supply, electricity and internal roads connectivity. The Deputy Director also spoke about APMR Act and sought cooperation from the market functionaries in implementing the Act in toto. |
