Sprawling Buds sponsors climbers for Belayers Course | | | Sports & Allied News
JAMMU, Mar 15: Two state sport climbers, Anil Kumar and Aman Arora today left today for Delhi to attend a three-day National Belayers' Course at Indian Mountaineering Foundation (IMF), the apex body for surface adventure sports in the country. The course is being conducted by IMF from March 17 to March 19. Both the climbers have been sponsored by Sprawling Buds School, Chinore, Bantalab, here The aim of the course is to produce trained belayers who can maximize the safety of the climbers during sport climbing training and competitions. It may be mentioned here that a belayer (the person who handles the rope) is responsible for the safety of the climber during a lead or a speed climbing competition. "Since our state does not have trained Belayers, the Association has been inviting national Belayers from Delhi for the conduct of all sport climbing competitions by incurring substantial expenditure. The successful completion of this National Belayers course by our climbers shall enable us to conduct the competitions on our own," disclosed general secretary of J&K Mountaineering Association, Ram Khajuria. Earlier, Ram Khajuria and joint secretary of the Association, Shawetica Khajuria along with the climbers called on the Director of Sprawling Buds School, Arti Sharma to express their gratitude for the liberal sponsorship. The Director wished the climbers grand success and assured them that the school was committed for the promotion of sport climbing in the state and would sponsor them for any further advance course also. |
