It is Pakistan's wishful thinking only | | | When President Mamnoon Hussain said Pakistan wants friendship with India he was simply giving expression to his wishful thinking. It was so because of the fact that his announcement on Pakistan's keenness to promote cordial ties was based on a condition which has neither been fulfilled nor implemented during the last 68 years.Mamnoon Hussain stated that friendship could be promoted between the two sides if the Kashmir issue was resolved in accordance with the UN resolutions for durable peace in the region. "We want friendship with India and want to resolve all issues including Kashmir through talks," he said addressing the Pakistan Day Parade in Islamabad which was held after seven year break due to militancy in the country. The President said that resolution of Kashmir dispute was important for peace in the region. "The issue of Kashmir should be resolved according to UN resolution," he said, adding that Pakistan wanted good ties with all neighbours including India. Hussain said the peace talks should be resumed between the two countries to address all issues. On terrorism, he said the nation was united in the war on terror and the evil will be eliminated from Pakistan. If Pakistan wants the Kashmir issue to be resolved as per the UN resolution what is then the need for holding bilateral talks ? Islamabad knows it fully well that India was not ready to implement the UN resolution which had become obsolete by now because when it was to be implemented, Pakistan refused to fulfill some of the conditions which had been laid down by the UN Security Council. And much water has flowed down the rivers in India and in Pakistan leaving hardly any scope for implementing the UN resolution. In fact the time has already gone for the implementation of the UN resolution. Does Islamabad relishes exporting terror to India, especially to Jammu and Kashmir simply to force New Delhi to implement the UN resolution for settling the Kashmir issue ? If this is the plan and the design of Islamabad it is mistaken because during the last over two decades New Delhi has not budged from its known stand on settlement of all issues through biltateral dialogue process.. Pakistan has thrust four wars, including the Kargil conflict on India still New Delhi has not deviated from its old st and on the resolution of all bilateral problems. During the last about six years, Islamabad has been making repeated pleas to New Delhi for resuming the process of bilateral dialogue.India has, despite severe provocations from Pakistan, resumed talks but these parleys were scuttled whenever Pakistan resorted to either direct interference in India's internal matters or indulged in frequent ceasefire violations or caused irritation to New Delhi by holding t alks, formal and informal, with Kashmir separatists. Whether during the Congress led UPA Government or during the current BJP led NDA Government, Pakistan has been told in plain terms that it should stop exporting terror to India because Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, has conveyed to Islamabad that talks and terror cannot co-exist.What is amazing and intriguing is the way Pakistan has indulged in some border coflict or assisted terrorists in carrying out strikes on police stations or on the Army camps whenever New Delhi makes announcement on reopening the channels of dialogue. This double standard on the part of Islamabad should end which alone could motivate New Delhi to resume the process of dialogue. It is better that Pakistan and its leaders impose no conditions for promoting cordial ties and peace. |
