RTI applicant accuses Joint Director Information of threatening him of life | Officer refutes allegations | | Early Times Report Jammu, Mar 25: While a mafia working in the State Department of Information that releases government advertisements to media houses against hefty cuts has reduced this vital arm of the government into a den of corruption, an officer of the rank of Joint Director allegedly threatened the publisher of a newspaper of eliminating him and his children. The publisher had been anguished by the rampant corruption and anarchy in the Information department with regards to release of government advertisements to news papers and had filed a query under RTI Act to find out the advertisement policy and criteria adopted by the department in releasing the advertisement to various publications. "The Joint Director, she threatened to get me eliminated along with my children" the publisher disclosed, contemplating to file an FIR against the officer. "Seeking information under RTI is my right and the department is duty bound to reply as per norms" he said, taking strong exception to the behaviour of the Joint Director. It is pertinent to mention here that resentment is brewing against the authorities in the department of Information who have rather than making efforts to pursue a transparent policy in release of advertisements have patronized the mafia that has been running a thriving racket. "There is a strong criminal nexus between the officers and officials of the Information Department and agents of certain publication houses who get advertisement released in exchange for pecuniary benefits" alleged another publisher, also irate over the deep rooted corruption and lack of transparency in the Information Department. The officer however rubbished the allegations of the publisher. "The said person had filed a couple of RTI queries which were replied, but now he has filed a fresh RTI, for which we still have time to furnish our reply" she said when contacted. "He was bullying around in the office and shouting at people who were not even concerned and he was simply told to leave" she added reiterating that allegations made by the publisher were unfounded.
