Early Times Report

JAMMU, Mar 26: Field Army commanders are said to have conveyed to their senior officers in Jammu and Kashmir that militancy related activities in the state may assume larger dimensions if fresh groups of militants having been brought on the launch pads managed to cross into Jammu and Kashmir.
Official sources said that once again groups of militants have been brought on the launch pads across Kathua, Samba, RS Pura, Suchetgarh, Akhnoor, especially across Palanwala and Panjtoot sectors for finding an opportunity to cross into Jammu sector. Sources said that this development has been the main factor behind repeated ceasefire violations having been committed by Pakistani Rangers on the IB.This was so because the R angers had been instructed to carve out a passage for militants to sneak into the Jammu sector. According to these sources since snow-bound LOC has become passable after melting of snow possibilities for increase in infiltration bids had become quite bright. In reply to a question a senior Army officer said that "we had never lowered the guard on the LOC and on the IB which was the reason that almost 90 per cent ingress bids were foiled by the troops and men of the BSF.
He said that militants have acquired Swiss-made snow clothing and boots, digital navigation consoles, satellite phones, high-energy food and more weaponry and ammunition to infiltrate in heavy snow.
He said that they have taken the recent attacks in Kathua and Samba districts seriously and are ready to deal with such challenges. "Whenever any attack takes place we take it seriously. We take lessons from it so that in future we act accordingly", he added. In reply to another question, the Army officer said that it was too early to speculate on partial withdrawal of the AFSPA from Jammu and Kashmir. He said "we favour that more time is needed for assessing the situation within the state and on the borders before any final decision on lifting of AFSPA in a phased manner was taken.
