Respondents get respite in conversion of Basmati rice field case | | | Early Times Report jammu, Mar 31: In a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Ranjeet Singh Chib seeking action against violators illegally converting world famous Basmati Paddy/Rice Growing fields into 'concrete jungle' in RS Pura, the Division Bench of state High Court comprising Chief Justice N Paul Vasanthakumar and Justice Bansi Lal Bhat granted eight weeks time to respondents for filling status report. When this PIL came-up for hearing, petitioner appeared in person while on the direction of Division Bench, Additional DC Jammu and SDM RS Pura too were present today, the petitioner alleged that in breach of the prohibitory orders violations are still taking place. As per PIL had submitted that thousands of Kanals of land has been converted into banquet halls, residential colonies and business complex in last five years without obtaining permission from the Revenue Minister as required under J&K Land Revenue Act despite Division Bench already had restrained construction on Agriculture land. AAG HA Siddiqui appearing for the respondents submitted that notices have been issued to the 175 persons for initiating action in terms of section 13 of J&K Agrarian Reforms Act 1976 and also submitted that the said sectuin contemplates certain procedures to be followed before orders are passed and seeks time to complete the process. In the end the Division Bench of state High Court Comprising Chief Justice N Paul Vasantha Kumar and Justice Bansi Lal Bhat granted eight weeks time for filling status report. —(JNF) |
