Centre allocating PDS ration to J&K as per 2001 census | 3.02 lakh families without ration cards | | Nitesh Sangral Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar 31: Over 3.02 lakh families in J&K have no access to PDS ration as State is still getting its quota of ration from the centre as per the census of 2001. This was informed by the government in the Upper House of state legislature in a written reply to a question of Mohammad Khalil Band who sought details from government regarding number of families yet to be provided with ration cards. Minister CAPD Zulfikar Ali informed that as per census 2011, there are approximately 3.02 lakh families who are yet to be provided with ration cards, but since J&K was still getting ration according to 2001 census, these families have no access to PDS ration. "At present, the state Government is providing ration to 19.72 lakh rationed families as per 2001 census. However, as per census 2011 the total population of the state is 125.48 lakh souls which worked out to approximately 22.73 lakh families. There is shortage of ration for approximately 3.02 lakh families. Any review in ration and recording the actual family strength of the card holder as per the current census is subject to the providing of additional ration by Government of India for covering the left out families and souls. The matter stands taken up with GOI for providing of additional ration as per census 2011, however, the response is still awaited, "Minister replied. He also informed through written reply in the Upper House that matter stands taken up with GOI for covering the left out families as and when the GOI adopts the census figure of 2011 and subsequently releases the additional food grains the left out families will be covered accordingly. The GOI has enacted NF5A 2013 and has intimated to cover 74.13 lakh populations at NFSA Rates and about 40 lakh populations will be covered at APL Rates out of tide over allocation. About 11 lakh population will remain out of purview of subsidized food-grains and can be provided food-grains at economic prices. |
