Saving lives, providing relief on priority of coalition, Centre: Hamid Choudhary
Govt seized of J&K flood situation

Jammu, Mar 31: People's Democratic Party (PDP) leader Abdul Hamid Choudhary today said that both state and central government were seized of flood situation in Jammu and Kashmir State and saving lives of people and providing them with relief was on their top priority. These unprecedented rains have added to the woes of people but State Disaster Relief Force (SDRF) and National Disaster Relief Force (NDRF) people besides men and machinery of government are working round the clock to save lives by evacuating people to safer places.
Expressing his shock over the loss of lives in Budgam, Choudhary Hamid expressed his grief with bereaved families and said that government is seized of the situation and was doing its best to fight against this nature's fury which has caused excessive losses in the state. He said loss of life in Jammu region is equally shocking and coalition government is leaving no stone unturned to safeguard life and property of people.
The PDP leader while expressing his gratitude to Centre for releasing Rupees 225 crore for flood affected Jammu and Kashmir said that at this stage there should be no constraint on releasing funds besides much needed boats, ropes, tents, food, water pumps and allied rescuing material and medicines must also be despatched to the state for dealing with this unprecedented situation.
Choudhary Hamid said that chief minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed flew in to Srinagar only to ensure that all agencies are coordinating with each other so that people are evacuated from waterlogged areas well in time. Fifty people, he said have been rescues in Poonch, 728 evacuated to safer places in Kashmir besides state administration is continuously pumping out water from most parts of water logged areas of Srinagar.
Arrangement of around four lakh sand bags to strengthen the river banks and to deal with any eventuality is also an appreciable and much needed step. The PDP leader said that timely action by the government has so far saved many lives and efforts are still on. He however urged the administration to take good care of stranded passengers who are running short of food and Money. It might take some more time for the highway to open and by that time people should be provided with proper shelter and food.
