Jammu, Apr 8: Minister for Education, Naeem Akhtar Wednesday hailed the efforts of district administration Bandipora and NHPC authorities in amicably resolving the issue of retrenched labourers working on Kishenganga Hydroelectric Project. Pertinently, around 400 labourers, whose land was taken over by NHPC for construction of Kishenganga Hydropower Project, were recently retrenched by the project authorities due to paucity of work. The labourers had resorted to strike leading to stopping of work at the project since 14th March 2015, an official statement said.
"However, on the intervention of the Education Minister, the NHPC authorities agreed to reconsider the decision and continue the labourers till the commissioning of the project. The issue was amicably sorted out after detailed deliberations between District Development Commissioner Bandipora and NHPC General Manager, K D Sah leading to resumption of work at the project today," the statement said.
"The NHPC authorities have now agreed to continue to pay these labourers at the rate of Rs 5500 per month till the completion of the project. At the same time NHPC would take various initiatives for capacity building of the people whose land has come under the project so that they can earn assured livelihood," the statement informed.
