BOPEE 'cheats' doctors working in rural areas | Denies reservation to them in PG courses | | Jehangir Rashid Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Apr 8: Board of Professional Entrance Examination (BOPEE) is once again in news and this time around the Board is all set to undo the efforts of young doctors who have been toiling hard in rural areas over the past so many years. BOPEE has decided to cause tremendous dent to the doctors who have been working in rural and far-off areas and are aspiring to join the post graduate courses in the different medical colleges of the state. This is despite the fact that there is proper reservation set out for doctors working in the countryside. A group of doctors while sharing their views with Early Times said that BOPEE has clubbed the percentage for doctors who have worked in rural areas, for the admission to post graduate courses with the open merit category. These doctors termed the decision as 'non-sense' saying that in such a way rules and regulations are being violated. "The brochure prepared by BOPEE for post graduate medical degree and diploma and master of dental surgery clearly spells out that 10 percent seats would be reserved for the candidates who have served for a minimum period of five years in rural areas of the state. The set procedure is being violated for this session," said the doctors. The doctors said that as on date they rue their decision of joining the services in the rural areas of the state despite facing hardships during their tenure. They said that their 'sacrifice' for not opting to greener pastures has been reciprocated with 'cheating' and 'criminal' attitude by the people at helm. "The BOPEE has been found violating the rules and regulations with impunity in the past and same is being repeated in our case. The irony is that the concerned authorities are not able to understand our point of view and as such there is complete chaos with respect to the admission to the post graduate courses this time around," said the doctors. The doctors said that they approached the BOPEE Chairman, Ghulam Nabi Tantray with their plea with the hope that they might get justice. However, here too they faced failure as the BOPEE chairman could not understand their point of view and as such the medicos got dejected. "The rules and regulations cannot be changed arbitrarily according to the wishes and whims of the authorities or any other person. The change in the rules and regulations has to be supplemented by the publication of a government gazette. No such thing has taken place with respect to the reservation of seats for the post graduate courses in the medical field," said the doctors. The doctors apprehend that they might lose out on the chance of pursuing the post graduate courses due to the arbitrary change of rules and regulations by the concerned stakeholders. They said they would get disheartened with the authorities being responsible for consequences thereof. "The counseling for the post graduate courses is set to begin in the next few days and we want the things to get cleared by that date. If we are denied the opportunity of pursuing the post graduate programmes then there are 100 percent chances that doctors would not go to rural areas and discharge their duties," said the doctors. |
