7 civilian killed, 60 injured in Pak firing on LOC in last 2 years | | | Asif Iqbal Naik
Early Times Report Jammu, Apr 8: In reply to A.Q. No. 985 of MLA Kamal Verma, the Home Department of Government of Jammu and Kashmir stated that seven civilians have been killed while 60 sustained injuries as a result of Pakistan firing along LOC in Bishnah constituency during last two year. Two security personals also lost their lives while 17 sustained injuries in the same area during the same period. As per government reply, Rs 1 lakh exgratia has been paid to the kith and kin of the deceased civilian, however the reply stated that no appointment under SRO-43 has been made so far in favour of the deceased families. In reply to a question whether the government has announced allotment of 5 Marla plot to each of the households residing within the range of 5 KM from border, the government reply stated that no such announcement has been made by the government, however the department related to parliamentary standing committee has desired the ministry of Home Affairs, GOI to seek a proposal for the government of J&K similar to one for which the ministry had earlier provided financial support to J&K government for alternative secure shelters at safer locations for the inhabitants of the Indian side of LOC along Pallanwalan Sector. The Home Ministry in this regard has also sought a comprehensive proposal from the state in this regard. The government reply also stated that as of now, payment of compensation for loss of live stock is not covered under the existing scheme, however the relief for the loss of live stock due to cross border firing has been paid to the affected families of Jammu District out of funds available with District Red Cross Society. |
