Pesticide units pollutes Basantar river, PCD unmoved | | | Early Times Report
Samba, Apr 8: The indiscriminate opening up of industries in Samba is good as far as generating employment for the unemployed youth but the rapid expansion of the industries is also causing a severe damage to the environment. This industrial area consists of two phases, having almost 250 factories of different industries mostly dealing with the hazardous chemicals the waste of which would also to be dumped in the river Basantar. The administration is also planning to develop Phase III, the waste of which would also to be dumped in the river Basenter . Throwing all norms in air, industrial waste of almost all the industries is allegedly dumped in said river once considered as lifeline of Samba city. These industries particularly manufacturing pesticide are reportedly polluting the air and water of the area. "The river Basantar is dying because of constant flow of waste materials coming from the industries without any check Said Kuldeep Raj. Due to smoke emissions from the factories and waste material from the industries many diseases occurred like skin diseases, lungs diseases, Hearing problems, and other respiratory diseases. The old age and young children are more prone to these ailments Said Dr Sourav Katoch. The villagers living in hamlets situated along the down stream of the river where the water of this river is being used traditionally for agricultural and domestic purposes are facing health problems. "The soil is growing infertile rapidly and animals are dying by constant intake of the polluted water Said Laddi Singh a Loacl person of village Burj Tanda. |
