Efforts required on war-footing basis for retrieving properties outside J&K: Acting Chairman LC

Jammu, Apr 8: Acting Chairman of Legislative Council Jahangir Mir today directed the government to make efforts on war-footing for retrieving properties of Jammu and Kashmir located in various parts of the country. He gave this direction after the members of legislative council expressed serious concern over what they described as negligent attitude of the state government towards the properties located in various parts of the country. Majority of the members of the legislative council spoke one after the other over the neglect of these properties.
They unanimously pleaded with the acting Chairman to direct the state government to take up the issue of neglected state properties with the respective state governments in various parts of the country. Earlier, Minister for Agriculture Ghulam Nabi Hanjura said that Jammu and Kashmir owns properties at various places outside the State viz Aitsar, Chandigarh, Sirsa (Haryana), New Delhi, Mumbai and efforts are being made to retrieve all these properties.
He was replying on behalf of the Minister in-charge Hospitality and Protocol to a question raised by Dr Bashir Ahmed Veeri in the House today. State Government has taken up the matter with the Central Government Departments viz Defence/Labour and Employment Ministry, Government of India for vacating the premises at Rajaji Marg, New Delhi and Chandigarh, he added. He further informed that the State properties at Aitsar and Sirsa Haryana are sub-judice and State Government is contesting the case through the Standing Counsel in the respective Courts of Punjab, Haryana for restoration of State properties in these areas. Hanjura further said that the Principal Resident Commissioner, New Delhi has been tasked to ascertain the current market value of these properties from the concerned authorities-Revenue/PWD of the area after due assessment.
