LPU distributes Rs Five Lakh among Solar Cars Competition Winners

Jalandhar, Apr 8: On the conclusion of five-day solar cars' mega competition, Lovely Professional University distributed Rs 5 Lakh among Solar- Cars competition winners of different titles. Occasion was premier collegiate engineering competition 'Indo Asian Solar Challenge (IASC)' at LPU campus. 'Taiyo Zen' team of Hindustan University Chennai accumulated the highest points "1042.7" to win the title- 'Champions of IASC 2015' along with cash prize of 2 Lakh & ten thousand. 'Xlerate' team of MNIT Jaipur declared runner up with 876.4 points and got prize money of Rs One Lakh. LPU teams got three prizes for the best solar and endurance performances. LPU had also put its 'All Women' team to compete in this always considered a men's event. LPU women team got appreciation award. The rest of the prize money was distributed to teams which showcased the best innovation, business plan, acceleration etc.
While awarding the winners, LPU Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal said: "I am happy to note that even rains and dark clouds could not discourage determined engineering students in utilizing solar energy. I congratulate all of the participants and advise them to keep up such a fiery and competitive spirit within them to excel in life."
LPU students' organization 'Robotics and Intelligent Systems Community (RISC-LPU)' hosted the event. Out of 100 teams registered initially from across India, only 34 teams could compete finally as per selection criteria. Applying the best engineering concepts, participating students had also considered vehicles' market compatibility as per manufacturing and cost efficiency. Illustrative, RISC-LPU already has wide-experience of organizing Asia's largest Solar Vehicle Challenge ESVC (Electric Solar Vehicle Championship).
Robust teams from LPU , SRM & Hindustan University from Tamil Nadu; Krishna Engineering College from Uttar Pradesh; SKN Sinhgad university from Maharashtra, NIT Jamshedpur and many more had participated. LPU captain of 'All Women' team Ribhu Thakur and her team- members were very happy on their maiden participation. Ribhu said: "Although we could not grab the champions' trophy, yet the very participation in all the rounds of the fest has motivated us much. We are thankful to the LPU environ where girl-students are always provided with equal chances in each field to excel and shine."
