Inter-department sports meet of JU
Biotechnology, Commerce advance in Cricket

Jammu, Apr 8: Department of Biotechnology and Department of Commerce today qualified for the next round after winning their respective ties in cricket event on the opening day of the annual inter-department sports meet of University of Jammu (JU), organised by the Directorate of Sports and Physical Education on the campus grounds, here.
In the first match, Department of Biotechnology outplayed Department of Dogri by a margin of 37 runs. Batting first, Biotechnology made 115 runs losing all wickets in given 15 overs.
Deepak remained top scorer with 44-ball 57 runs while Vishal contributed 15 runs. Davinder took three wickets from Department of Dogri.
In reply, Department of Dogri could make 68 runs in allotted 15 overs losing eight wickets. Manish remained top scorer with 23 runs while Sunil added nine runs to the total. Sajid bagged two wickets from Department of Biotechnology.
Meanwhile, in other scheduled match of the day, Department of Commerce outplayed Department of Life Long Learning by six wickets.
Batting first, Life Long Learning set a target of 83 runs losing eight wickets in 15 overs play. Manoj scored 24-ball 29 runs, followed by Akbar Ali and Amit, who contributed 24 and 13 runs respectively. From Department of Commerce, Mehmood took two wickets.
Later, Commerce overhauled the opponent total making 84 runs in 13.5 overs for the loss of four wickets. Ayush made highest 33 (off 24 balls) runs while Gulzar added 20. Pankeshwar bagged two wickets from Department of Life Long Learning.
Today's matches officiated by the technical penal including Sushil Kumar Sawhney, Raj Kumar Bakshi, Ravish Vaid, Vikas Karlopia, Gagan Kumar, Sadiq Hussain, Vijay Dogra and Jagtar Singh.
Earlier, the sports meet was declared open by Director, Sports and Physical Education, JU, Prof Dhian Singh Bhau.
