VB College Srinagar appoints lecturers arbitrarily | | | Peerzada Ummer
Early Times Report
Srinagar, Apr 17: Vishwa Bharti College in Srinagar has appointed lecturers on contractual basis allegedly without following the set norms. Sources said that the college has also regularized several contractual lecturers while ignoring the rules. "It remains a mystery for the academics in the state what procedure the college authorities adopted while regularizing the services of at least four contractual lecturers," the sources said. Also, one of the college employees, who was appointed as an orderly in 1994, is at present holding the post of a section officer in the college. The college authorities haven't come clear over what procedure has been adopted while promoting him. The sources said that Shameem Ahmad who retired as principal of the college in 2002 was given two-year extension. "He continued to remain on his post till 2012. Shameem was later appointed by the Vishwa Bharti College as the executive officer. What criteria was adopted to rehabilitate him also remains a mystery," said the sources. They said that Usha Ganhar has been appointed in the college without advertising the post and the authorities have refused to give information to an RTI applicant her appointment. "Moreover, the huge funds received by the college from the University Grants Commission have not been utilized in a proper way," the sources said. "No norms are followed during appointment of the staff in the college. We can call it a pick and choose process wherein no rules are set and no norms are followed," said the sources, adding that the college authorities do receive RTI applications about the issues. The RTI applications are ignored, though. One of the RTI applicants, Mir Suhail, said he had sought information related to appointment of contractual lectures and the procedure of regularizing their services. He said he had submitted his application in March this year but so far no reply has been given to him. Despite repeated efforts by Early Times, no one from the college administration could be contacted for comment over the issue. |
