Madhav, Nirmal say no pressure on State Government, Patra contradicts | Arrest of Masarat Alam | | ET Report Jammu, Apr 17: The under-pressure Jammu and Kashmir Government today finally yielded and had terrorist and Pakistani asset Masarat Alam arrested. He should have been arrested under the charge of sedition, but was, very surprisingly, booked for unlawful activities suggesting that there are still elements in the establishment who are friendly towards Alam and others who two days ago organized anti-India rally in Srinagar, raised pro-Pakistan, pro-Azadi and anti-India slogans, unfurled Pakistani flags and made seditious speeches. He and others, including Syed Ali Shah Geelani, should have been booked and arrested then and there for the unpardonable and cognizable crime that they committed against the India state under the very nose of the law and order authorities themselves, but they were allowed to go scot-free and continue to provoke anti-India explosions in the Valley. It was the national outrage and media outrage that played its part and left the State Government and the Union Government with no option but to swing into action. Had the nation not reacted for two full days in the manner it reacted, had the non-BJP political parties, including (surprisingly) the Congress, not lambasted the BJP's soft approach towards secessionists in the Valley and had the media not taken up the issue in such a big way to expose the BJP and the Modi Government at the Centre, there would not have any action against Alam and others who had declared that Jammu and Kashmir was part of Pakistan and not of India and their heart only bled for Islamabad. Very importantly, on Thursday, Pakistan Foreign Office spokesperson Tasnim Aslam openly sided with the likes of Alam. It was expected. The interference of Pakistan in the internal affairs of India further infuriated the nation and the media and created a situation that also contributed to the arrest of Alam. Surprisingly, however, the BJP leaders and spokespersons spoke differently while reacting to the arrest of Alam. BJP national general secretary Ram Madhav, who was here in Jammu for two days for the state BJP's executive meeting being held at the holy town of Katra, told reporters that there was no pressure on the State Government to arrest Alam. Another senior BJP leader and Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh also concurred with Ram Madhav and said there was no BJP's pressure on the State Government. But in Delhi, BJP spokespersons made contradictory statements. Sambit Patra and a number of other BJP national spokespersons asserted that it was because of the pressure exerted by the Central Government that the State Government acted and arrested Alam. "Our Home Minister Rajnath Singh Ji had talked to the Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and asked him to take stringent action against Alam and others," said Patra, adding that the "BJP and the BJP-led NDA Government will never compromise their stand on Jammu and Kashmir and ideology and we will not allow any anti-India activity happening the Valley in the future". Why are the BJP leaders contradicting each other publicly? Perhaps, the BJP leadership is vertically divided into two groups one for the BJP's participation in the state government and other against it. The BJP leadership, it seems, has gone totally confused. They do not know what they are saying. And the way the BJP leaders are conducting themselves are only discrediting themselves and their party and bringing bad name to their top leaders such PM Modi, HM Rajnath Singh and party president Amit Shah. It is no wonder that the opponents of the BJP are taking digs at it and enjoying its humiliation. |
