J&K Excise team seizes 388 grams gold in Kathua | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Apr 22: A team of Jammu and Kashmir Excise Department today seized 388 grams of gold from J&K-Punjab border near Lakhanpur in Kathua district. "Based on specific inputs, police team this afternoon during searches of Jammu bound Punjab Roadways Bus at Lakhanpur Check Post recovered 388 grams gold from one Sarju Kumar, resident of Amritsar," an official of Excise Department said. He said he was a Punjab-based jeweler and was illegally importing gold to Jammu to sell it to a local jeweller.. "Though there was no document or receipt of tax paid he was carrying, so the gold was seized on the spot by the excise team rushed to the spot," he added. An official further said the gold was worth Rs 10.80 lakh and the owner has to pay six per cent as fine to the tune of total amount. The investigations however, are in progress. |
