Congress leaders question BJP's surrender on AIIMS | 'People of Jammu befooled yet again' | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Apr 22: Congress leaders including Sham Lal Sharma, Raman Bhalla and Ravinder Sharma have questioned silence assumed by the BJP over the issue of surrendering AIIMS to Kashmir, despite its original allocation to Jammu region. Addressing a joint Press Conference at Press Club Jammu Senior Vice President PCC Sham Lal Sharma, Vice President PCC Raman Bhalla and Chief Spokesman Ravinder Sharma criticized the BJP leadership at the centre and state especially its ministers and legislators for being mute spectators to the growing unrest amongst the people over the betrayal on this issue and said that BJP stands exposed for its double standards and politics of lies. Sham Lal Sharma said that AIIMS was announced for Jammu on February 28th, when the Union Budget was presented in the Parliament. The MOS in PMO congratulated the Finance Minister Arun Jaitly for this announcement, soon after the presentation of budget in the parliament itself, as reported in the media also. The Union Minister had claimed that justice has been done, as setting up of AIIMS at Jammu was a long felt need. Sharma said that it was second time that the BJP led NDA government has tried to befool people of Jammu region, as a similar impression was given in the year 2003, also on the eve of General Elections by the then NDA government, when Sushma Swaraj the then Union Health Minister simply laid the foundation stone in the name of AIIMS in Jammu, without any budgetary allocation. However, the Congress led UPA government took up the project and fully funded to the tune of rupees hundred crores from the centre alongwith 20% share of the state. Again this time, the people of Jammu region have been cheated, after announcing the AIIMS for Jammu. The BJP leaders and ministers are misleading the people on the issue, as it has been clearly mentioned in the Governor's address, that AIIMS has been sanctioned for Kashmir, which is approved by the cabinet first. The senior Congress leaders said that Congress led UPA government headed by Dr. Manmohan Singh has already set an example by establishing two central universities one in Kashmir and another in Jammu, which was much bigger projects involving more than four thousand kanals of land. This was done in view of the peculiar circumstances of the state. While announcing to intensify the agitation, the Congress urged the civil society of Jammu region, especially the representatives of Chamber and BAR and other right thinking citizens including leaders of political parties to rise to the occasion to join hands for the just cause. |
