BJP opposing the demand, VHP, BD supporting it | AIIMS issue: RSS of confusion | |
Early Times Report JAMMU, Apr 26: Strange is the working of the RSS. It has several organs some of which tread diametrically opposite paths. It became clear on the eve of Jammu bandh, on the day of bandh and a day after people of Jammu province exhibited their resolve and strength by observing a massive bandh. Bandh was organized and supported by all the non-BJP parties and civil society groups and their targets were the state BJP leadership and national BJP leadership, including PM Narendra Modi, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and BJP national general secretary and in-charge J&K BJP Ram Madhav, who, it is believed, finalized the “agenda of Alliance” with the PDP. On the eve of the bandh, the VHP and Bajrang Dal supported the bandh call and attacked the BJP for its act of betrayal. On the day of bandh (April 24), some of the members of these RSS affiliates came out on the streets to see if the bandh was complete or not complete and ensured that the bandh became a grand success. A day after the people observed a complete bandh, the VHP and the Bajrang Dal held press conference to thank the people of Jammu province for observing bandh. They condemned the BJP and declared that they would continue to struggle for the establishment of AIIMS in Jammu. Interestingly, the role of the VHP and Bajrang Dal in the bandh was just negligible. They simply tried to identify themselves with the sentiments of the people of Jammu province. Their so-called support to the Jammu cause and their so-called opposition to the BJP, the RSS’ political wing, have raised many questions about the sincerity of the RSS. The fact of the matter is that people of Jammu province are by and large holding the RSS responsible for what the BJP has been doing to Jammu after coming into power in the state. An influential section has even gone to the extent of asserting that the “RSS and its political outfit BJP are working for the resolution of the Kashmir issue at the cost of the minorities in Jammu and Kashmir and the nation” and that “the RSS and the BJP might accept the Musharraf’s break-India five-point formula”. There are also reports that “a senior RSS functionary, who served the state of Jammu and Kashmir for many years as Prantiya Pracharak, has been misleading the people by telling them that Kashmir is a humanitarian issue”. Frankly speaking, this RSS functionary, who is now Delhi-based, has been, according to this section of public opinion, echoing the view of Kashmiri separatists, who describe the Kashmir issue as “humanitarian” and want the Indian nation to vacate not only Kashmir but Jammu and Ladakh as well. |
