It means BJP actually meant it | No AIIMS to Jammu | |
Early times Report JAMMU, Apr 26: On Friday, Deputy Chief Minister and BJP leader Nirmal Singh declared that his party would not allow any power on earth to “snatch AIIMS from Kashmir” and charged the Congress and the NC with playing double-game on the issue. The statement caused resentment among the people of Jammu province. Parties like the Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP), the NC, the Congress and a number of other political and social groups, besides students organizations, criticized the BJP and asked its leadership to clear its stand on the demand in Jammu province for the establishment of the proposed AIIMS in Jammu. (On February 28, Union Finance Minister and BJP leader Arun Jaitley had announced AIIMS for Jammu and IIT and IIM for Kashmir and on the same day, MoS in PMO Jitendra Singh had hailed Jaitley for his announcement.) All criticized the local BJP leadership, as also the BJP national leadership and accused them of “ditching” the people of Jammu province. Not only the non-BJP parties, even certain senior leaders of the BJP questioned the statement of the Deputy Chief Minister and asked the state BJP president to clear the party’s stand on the issue of AIIMS. One of the senior BJP leaders even wrote a letter to him and sent copies of the same to 13 senior BJP leaders, including two ministers, seeking their intervention in the matter so that the BJP was saved from further embarrassment. Significantly, the Deputy Chief Minister didn’t rebut the charges leveled against him and the party. Neither he issued any clarification, nor the BJP issued any clarification to clear the confusion. That they chose to remain silent on the burning issue only established that the Deputy Chief Minister actually meant what he said much to the chagrin of the people of Jammu province. His statement and the BJP’s silence have rubbed salt on the wounds of the people of Jammu province. It would not be surprising if the people of Jammu province intensified their anti-BJP campaign in the coming days. In fact, signals to this effect are already there. ………………………………
