Jammu, Apr 26 : Tree Talk was hosted in GWC Gandhi Nagar in close collaboration with NSS and NCC college volunteers under the stewardship of Principal college Prof Kiran Bakshi ,Dr Ashaq Malik ,CCF O P Sharma Vidyarthi and IG Yoginder Kaul . According to press release, IGP Yoginder Kaul while focusing on natural and man-made disasters highlighted the role of preservation and protection of forests , ecosystem ecology and role of National and State Disaster Rapid Response Force in providing timely rapid action in rescue and relief operations at the time of earthquakes ,floods ,fires and landslides. While, OP Sharma Tree Talk founder highlighted that Climate change is pushing human societies towards all kinds of vulnerabilities like crop damage ,fruit failures , scarcity of perennial water resources ,landslides ,unseasonal hailstorms and floods. Hailstorm and windstorm killed thousands of sparrows, mynas, starlings, pigeons and bulbuls in Bangladesh and Bihar followed by yesterday's devastating earthquake killing over 25000 people in Nepal and India. Life supporting Himalayan ecology need to viewed in the context of seismic vulnerability and nature and natural processes need to be repaired, corrected and conserved for future prosperity. Dr Ashaq Malik reflected on usefulness of Himalayan Cherry locally called Van Rawaadi or Pajja ,it flowers during autumn season ,wood is aromatic and adds colour to mountainscape has so far escaped notice of city dwellerd , Floriculture , Social Forestry department and need to be planted at all hill tourist destinations like Shahdra Shrief or Sudhmahandev. On the occasion, Sabha Khan, Arti, Madhu, Sonika and Tabbasum presented views on lesser known herbal shampoos based on plants like Safed Bhangra, Amla, Shikakai, Reetha, Akash Bel, Gudhal, Bichhu Booti, Ratanjot and Harad. |
