PM to support CM's 'emotional unification' plan | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 26: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has decided to give support to J&K Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed in his efforts for "emotional unification" of Kashmir and Jammu. According to sources, Modi had approved the strategic plan of the CM on this issue and has expressed confidence in the latter's abilities. "The PM was briefed about the CM's vision and plan by the National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, a trusted man of Modi, who has himself served in the J&K and knows the state inside out, especially the involvement of Pakistan in the state," said a senior official, privy to the developments. It's for this reason that the PM and other BJP leaders didn't speak against Mufti after he released separatist leader Masarat Alam from jail. The PM believes that if the CM is able to bring Jammu and Kashmir together and the distrust between the two regions goes away, the model could be worked out in the rest of the India. "Modi carries the tag of anti-Muslim, but he is trying to shed this image. It's for this reason he spoke about concerns of the minorities. The PM wants Mufti to be given freehand and if it works that having a Muslim CM on his side, the model can be played out in the rest of the country as cultural and emotional unification of the country," said a senior PDP leader. The PM having got huge mandate of the people, a point publicly acknowledged by Mufti, is keen to bring Jammu and Kashmir in the mainstream. The sources said that Modi acknowledged the political acumen of Mufti, who is much senior to him. "It's for this reason the BJP didn't insist on equal share in the cabinet and gave major hand to the PDP. The reason was the BJP (read the PM), wanted to send a message that BJP respects and is sensitive to the sensitivities of Muslims," the sources added. |
