| Youth Congress protests demotion of Dr Choudhry | | | Early Times Report
Rajouri, Apr 26: Youth Congress leaders led by Advocate Shokat Chowdhry and Zaheer Ahmed have expressed deep concern over the closing of Gastroenterology Department at Super Specialty Hospital (SSH) at Jammu and demotion of its head Dr Shoket Choudhry who belong to Rajouri-Poonch region.
These leaders have condemned the decision of Ch Lal Singh, Health Minister and termed it is an act of discrimination with the Rajouri-Poonch region as the internationally famed doctor belongs to this region.
"The day light injustice to a reputed doctor is self centered act having disguised vested interests and such act definitely will hamper and discourage the professional talents" said Advocate Shokat Chowdhry, a Youth Congress leader .
Protesting the random and arbitrary working of Health Minister , Youth Congress leaders from Rajouri said that as the Health Minister Lal Singh couldn't adjust any of his blue eyed doctors at this important department at SSH, Jammu , he not only insulted Dr Shokat Choudhry (by demoting him) but in rage also ordered to close the department.
Zaheer Ahmed ,another Youth Congress leader termed Health Minister's decision as matter of utter discrimination with the people of Rajouri-Poonch districts as their Icon doctor, had abandoned his luxurious life and practice at America to serve the people of his motherland especially people of J&K.
"He (Dr Shoket) was not only harassed, insulted, demoralized but was also demoted with ill intentions. The people of this region shall not tolerate any such act on part of Health Minister and will be left with no other option than going for large scale protests if the decision was not rolled back by the government" said Zaheer.
Advocate Shokat Chowdhry added that only Muslim doctor from Jammu region who did DM in Gastroenterology (PGI, Chandigarh) was settled in America but he on the request of people from this region chose to serve his motherland and Joined Medical College at Jammu.
Later Dr Shoket was assigned the job of establishing Gastroenterology department at Super Specialty Hospital. Taking assignment as challenge Dr Shoket with his tireless efforts and by abandoning his luxurious life, leaves, and other incentives he managed to establish the department within a short span.
"Instead appreciating his achievements and selfless efforts in establishing the Gastroenterology department, Ch Lal Singh, Health Minister not only closed the department but also demoted the doctor" said Advocate Shokat. |
