NIOS observes World Environment Day | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, June 6 : National Institute of Open Schooling staff today observes World Environment Day here at Regional Centre Chan-digarh. According to press release, the theme to celebrate the day was GREEN-2015. During the progra-mme, Tree Plantation was carried out by the Regional Director and staff of the Regional Centre. Regional Centre also invited Senior Citizens and other dignitaries from nearby institutions to participate in the activity. Some learners of NIOS of Chandigarh also participated in the programme and raised questions during discussion. Dr. Giri, Regional Director in his address to the participants emphasized upon the need for encouraging Tree Plantation Drives. He stressed that to curtail Global Warming, Climate Change & Pollution, Trees are the only savior. If we do not wake up to this today, it may be too late for the future generation to survive on the Earth. Arvind J Noel, General Secretary of YMCA, Chandigarh was also present and graced the occasion. He emphasized upon the urgent need to do more plantation to save environment. Hardeep Singh, Assistant Director also stressed that there is strong need for changing the mindset and working practically to save the environment. The three (R's) Reduce, Reuse and Recycle is required in every activity of our life. SEO G.S Dhillon suggested different ways and means for achieving Pollution free environment and increasing green cover. Dr. Pawan Kumar Jain, Section Officer, anchored the event. He also recited a small poem titled "VRIKSH KA DARD" on this Occasion. The programme ended with an oath taking ceremony by all staff of Regional Centre to plant more and more trees. |
