Security forces foil infiltration bid, three ultras eliminated near LoC in Kupwara | | | S Tahir-ul Haq

Kupwara, June 6: Security forces successfully foiled an infiltration bid on Saturday morning with the elimination of three armed infiltrators when they were trying to sneak into Indian side near Line of Control (LoC) in Nowgam sector of Handwara Tehsil in Kupwara of north Kashmir. A senior army official in a telephonic conversation from Kupwara told Early Times that during the intervening night of June 5/6, the movement of a group of 4-5 infiltrators were intercepted by troops of 3 KUMAON Regiment near Atma Post in the Nowgam sector. "After being challenged, "the group of suspected ultras opened heavy volume of fire upon the security forces and the same was promptly retaliated in equal caliber ensuing fierce gunfight that lasted for several hours till wee hours of Saturday morning and three ultras were neutralized in this gun battle," he said. Meanwhile, official spokesperson i.e. Defence spokesperson Kashmir, Col Brijesh Panday confirming the incident said that Security forces foiled an infiltration bid successfully when a heavily armed 4-5 militants sneaked into this side of Line of Control (LoC) and were intercepted by the alert troops last night. He added the three ultras were eliminated in the wee hours of Saturday morning. However he further said that the area has been cordoned off and search operation in the area is still in progress till last reports came in. It is learnt from top security official that the overall operation in Nowgam sector of Handwara Tehsil is monitored by the 19 Infantry Division based in Baramulla. Here it needs to mention that the militants are desperate to unleash the terror regime and have recently made unsuccessful bid to target security forces in a bid to accomplish their evil motives but the alert troops acting promptly not only have foiled their bids but also have successfully neutralized the armed militants. 15 Chinar Corps Commander, Lt General Subrata Saha, told reporters in Baramulla that huge cache of arms and other war-like stores were recovered from the militants and the search operation was under way when last reports came in. It is pertinent to mention here that in recent past army had neutralized three armed ultras when they tried to attack on Military Hospital (MH) in Tangdhar area of Kupwara district. A senior army official also mentioned that five to six heavily armed militants had sneaked into this side of Line of Control (LoC) who tried to storm 328 Field Surgical Centre at Bukhiyan village near Dak Bungalow Tangdhar on May 21. "The commandos and soldiers of 20 Rashtriya Rifles (RR), 12 Maratha and 26 Rajput laid a siege around the Bukhiyan village to prevents militants from fleeing the area," said an Army official. "However in no time there was an exchange of fire from both the sides and all the three militants were neutralized, he added. Earlier a fierce gun fight broke out between militants and security forces near Darshan post near the LoC in which three army men of 3/1 GR were killed and injured a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO), one militant was also gunned down on May 25.
