State BJP leaders ask Centre to choke funds | Financial Crunch! | | Wrong feedback hits developmental works, PDP fumes Fazal Khan Early Times Report srinagar, June 6: As Jammu and Kashmir is witnessing one of the worst financial crunches, the BJP state leaders have ostensibly provided "wrong feedback" to the central leadership and have asked it not to go out of way while providing funds to the state government. The Early Times has learnt the BJP state leaders have informed the high command that it should refrain from sending funds to the state on demand as the funds meant for people are "swindled" by the powerful people. The Central government not releasing the funds has put the Jammu and Kashmir government in the tight spot as its finding hard to cope with the situation. Treasuries are empty and bills worth crores are pending. Contractors have refused to take up new works while as teachers, daily wagers and other employees have been regularly hitting the streets demanding their pending wages. Sources said that BJP high command had sought feedback from the BJP leaders about the ground situation in JK and how to go ahead with the funding. "Most BJP leaders informed the high command that funds don't reach the people and money gets swindled before reaching the masses," they said. Recently when a few PDP ministers took up the issue of releasing funds with the BJP central leadership, the PDP leaders, according to the sources, were told that funds would be provided as per the requirement and they should forget about the liberal funding. "It's really unfortunate that state BJP leaders have provided wrong feedback to the party high command and have led to the choking of funds," said a PDP leader. He said that BJP leaders should understand that their party is an equal partner in the coalition and the feedback provided by them is "totally wrong." "Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed has made it clear that corruption won't be tolerated and every possible effort would be made to ensure that funds provided by the Centre reach the deserving," he added. The PDP leader said that BJP central as well as state leadership should realize that no development can take place till state receives the funds from New Delhi. "One of the main reasons for PDP joining hands with BJP was that JK would witness development and Centre would support the state in every possible way," he added. Sources said that PDP leaders are not happy with the "way things are going." "PDP leadership had conveyed to New Delhi that it should provide AIIMS to Jammu also so that the issue does not snowball into a major controversy but a few BJP leaders from JK played a spoil sport and informed the high command that there is no need for it," they added. A few PDP leaders, according to the sources, are of the opinion that if National Conference could get two central universities sanctioned for JK, then why can't "Our government get two AIIMS sanctioned for the state." BJP leaders are least bothered about the growing resentment against them in the Jammu region, where party bagged 25 assembly seats in 2014 assembly polls. "PDP cannot afford to annoy the people in Kashmir as it came into power with a promise that miseries inflicted upon people by the previous NC-Cong regime would be taken care off but till date government has failed to take off," said an analyst. "The BJP central leadership should send an independent team to Jammu and Kashmir to understand the requirements of the people rather than relying on the wrong feedback being provided by a handful of the people," he added. |
