Pro-Khalistan slogans work of vested interests: Sikh leader | Social networking sites adding fuel to Jammu tragedy | | Early Times Report
Jammu, June 6: As Jammu remained disturbed for second day consecutive day today following the killing of a Sikh youth two days ago, unregulated content on social networking sites has been adding fuel to the fire. Social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter and different phone groups like Whatsapp remained busy with people uploading photographs of some Sikh youth waving Pakistani flags at an unknown place in the state It was also reported that some Sikhs during their protest in south Kashmir had put on T-shirts with slogans in favour of Khalistan embossed on them. The protesters also raised slogans against India and in support of Pakistan. Sikh leader and chairman All Parties Sikh Coordination Committee (APSCC), Jagmohan Singh Raina while terming the Jammu incident as unfortunate said that many people were part of protest and they (Sikhs) do not know who among the protestors raised Khalistan slogans. "You know people have their own interests in everything and while we are protesting against the brutal killing, many elements are trying to gain from this tragedy. Raising pro-Khalistan slogans is the handiwork of some elements who are hell bent to create wedges in the society. We only protest for justice," Raina said. The Sikhs of the state have been protesting against the death of a youth allegedly in police firing in Jammu. The protesters have also raised slogans in favour of Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale and Khalistan. Reports of raising of pro-Khalistan slogans and waving Pakistani flags by Sikh youth in Jammu and Kashmir are emerging at a time when PDP-BJP government is criticized by many quarters in the country for allowing separatists leaders to hoist Pakistani flags during their rallies in the Valley. It was only after tremendous pressure and outcry across the country that led to the re-arrest of noted separatist leader Masarat Alam after he raised pro-Pakistan slogans in a rally to welcome hardline Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani on his arrival from New Delhi. |
