JKPPM, RPA decide to launch statewide campaign for ST Status

rajouri, June 16: Pahari Community organizations including J&K Pahari People Movement (JKPPM) and Rashtriya Pahari Andollen (RPA) have unanimously decided to launch State wide peaceful campaign / agitation in favor of their long pending demand of Schedule Tribe (ST) Status for their community.
These leaders have also hailed the BJP's proposed decision to appoint Kuldeep Raj Gupta, one amongst senior most BJP leaders hailing from Rajouri, as Vice Chairman Pahari Advisory Board (PAB).
Shahbaz Khan , executive chairman, J&K Pahari People Movement (JKPPM) said it was hoped that joint efforts put by Kuldeep Raj Gupta and Vibodh Gupta,MLC (both Pahari and belong to Rajouri city) may help Paharis in getting the ST status.
"Pahari Community has suffered a lot during last more than 30 years after some vested interests have worked against the community. Other communities are enjoying ST status for the last more than 28 years while Paharis have been struggling for it since then," said Shahbaz Khan.
He also alleged that over 3 lakh educated unemployed youth from Pahari Community have become the victims of discriminatory attitude of successive State governments in the absence of any reservation for them.
Meanwhile Vikrant Sharma Chairman Rashtriya Pahari Andollen (RPA) has appealed to the people of Pahari Community to get united to launch a united struggle under one umbrella.
Both these organizations have already started state wide campaign to unite the Pahari youth for joint struggle. They also said that J&K Legislative Assembly had already passed a resolution in favor of ST Status for the Pahari community.
