Ruckus in Anantnag DB meet over civilian killing in Kulgam | MLA demands judicial probe | | Saahil Suhail

Anantnag, June 22: District Development meet, held here at Dak Banglow under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed on Monday witnessed ruckus over the civilian Killing in Redwani area of Kulgam district during an encounter. National Conference legislator from Homeshalibugh assembly segment of Kulgam district staged walk out from the meet demanding judicial probe into the killing. Reports said that National Conference legislator from Homeshalibugh assembly constituency of Kulgam district, Abdul Majeed Bhat (Larmi) disrupted the district development meeting soon after it started and protested the "targeted killing" of a civilian by government forces in Redwani Bala area of the district. Highly placed sources told Early Times that MLA protested the civilian killing and staged walk out. "It is a targeted Killing. He (Youth) was killed when he along with other locals was going for prayers to a nearby Masjid. He was innocent. His killing should be probed," Larmi told Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Syed before making a quick exit. They said that district development meet witnessed disruption for about half an hour which forced Chief Minister to direct Deputy Commissioner Kulgam for ordering a magisterial probe. "Following disruption over the civilian Killing Chief Minister directed DC Kulgam to initiate magisterial enquiry and assured fair probe into civilian killing," an official pleading anonymity said. He said that when the protesting MLA became too agitated, Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed was forced to hit back at legislator by reminding him of 2010 killings. "What was happing in your tenure? What about those civilians who were killed in your tenure," aggressive Mufti told legislator to which Abdul Majeed larmi responded, "Sir, that time you were protesting so are we." Sources said that soon after the verbal brawl with the Chief Minister, National conference legislator staged walk out from the District Development board meeting and raised slogans 'stop civilian killings'. Abdul Majeed Larmi while talking to media outside Dakbanglow said that civilian (Asif Ahmad Tantray) was targeted and demanded a judicial probe into the killing. He questioned the stand of Chief Minister Mufti Mohd Sayeed over the killing and said, "It is the height of frustration that Chief Minister justified the killing of innocent youth on the pretext of 2010 killings." Meanwhile Deputy Commissioner Kulgam confirmed to Early Times that he was ordered an magisterial enquiry into the killing of youth. National conference legislators Dr Bashir Ahmad Veeri and Altaf Ahmad Kaloo who also attended the district development board meeting demanded swift action against guilty. Chief Minister Mufti Mohmmad Sayeed, Member Parliament Mehbooba Mufti, Finance Minister Haseeb Darbu, Rural Development Minister Abdul Haq Khan, Horticulture and Haj and Awqaf minister Abdul Rahman Veeri, sitting MLA's and MLC's along with top officials of the government attended the meet. |
