Will BJP dare to stir the hornet's nest at Roopnagar | Residents protest conversion of banquet hall into club | | Early Times Report Jammu, July 4: The protest gathering upsurge within Roop Nagar Housing Colony residents regarding resistance to authorities'' effort to convert JDA Banquet hall into a club goes more severe as the protestors allege that the present indispensation including BJP is putting its own people at hardships in Jammu who have mandated them to power. "Had it been a case at Kashmir, none of the BJP minister or leader would have dared to take a call on converting a public community hall into a club there. It is only in Jammu that BJP ministers are themselves involved in creating hardships for its own people for its own comfort," said one of the residents of the Roopnagar area. He alleged that two important BJP ministers are involved in providing the backup to certain elements who are vouching for creating of the Club culture in a peaceful and harmonious colony while the residents are against the club. The residents of the area were of opinion that since there are many other basic issues like providing of clean water, regular electricity, good mettaled road and maintenance of parks towards which the administration has turned the nelson eye. The Roop Nagar Housing Colony Residents Welfare has come on streets to protest against the proposal of JDA and warned to intensify agitation in case the authorities will go ahead with the decision. They said establishment of Club will add to public nuisance in the area and have a negative effect on the residents. As the proposal is under active consideration of the authorities, the residents of the area held various demonstrations in the area. The protest was held under the banner of Roop Nagar Residents Welfare Association led by its president Uttam Deep. This was followed by a strong demonstration by women under the banner of the Association few days back who too protested against the move and warned to launch a decisive battle in case the authorities go ahead to give practical shape to the proposed move at the behest of some vested interests. They said previously when the Association objected to the decision the then VC JDA agreed to scuttle the move in view of the side ranging opposition by local people. To respect the sentiments of the inhabitants of the area the then VC had agreed not to go ahead with the move and instead gave instructions that the community hall should continue to function. |
