Jammu University or a caste Sabha | VC on a transfer spree | | Early Times Report Jammu, July 4: The Vice-Chancellor of Jammu University is on a transfer spree. During the past three days, he affected several transfers in the University at the top level and also promoted at least three Deputy Registrars as Joint Registrars. On January 1, he effected major changes in the administration and appointed Prof Keshav Sharma as Registrar of the varsity. Professor Sharma replaced Prof Manoj K Dhar, a Kashmiri Pandit. Earlier Prof Keshav Sharma was serving as the Controller of Examinations. The same day, he appointed Prof Dhar as his Advisor. It was for the first time that such a position was created and the objective obviously was to accommodate Prof Dhar as he was his "right hand man". Apart from appointing Prof Keshav Sharma as Registrar and Prof Dhar as Advisor to the Vice-Chancellor, Vice-Chancellor RD Sharma transferred Jai Kumar Sharma, Special Secretary to the VC, and appointed him as the Director, Colleges Development (DCD), and Dr Neeraj Sharma as Special Secretary to the Vice Chancellor. He had earlier served as the Special Secretary to the Vice Chancellor during the tenure of former Vice Chancellor Prof Amitabh Mattoo. On July 3, the Jammu University witnessed three promotions. Three Deputy Registrars were promoted as Joint Registrars giving back date effect of October 2014. The order was issued after it was approved by the Chancellor of Jammu University and Governor of J&K NN Vohra. Obviously, the names were recommended for promotion by the Registry of the varsity. Those promoted as Joint Registrars were Jatinder Khajuria, Ashwani Kumar Padha and Dharminder Magotra. Thus, all the top positions in the university as of now are under the complete control of members from a one particular caste. The only odd face in the administration perhaps is Sanjeev Mahajan. He was appointed as Controller of Examinations on July 1. Before his elevation to this position, he was Joint Registrar Accounts and Joint Registrar, Examination Wing Commenting on these transfers and promotions, many senior faculty members on the condition of anonymity said: "It would be proper to call Jammu University as Brahman Sabha". The observation appears to be significant, revealing and meaningful. "It can't be just a coincidence that all the top officials in Jammu University, including the Vice-Chancellor, are from one caste", they also said, adding that "this will adversely impact the working in the university". |
