Rare Surgery : 22 kgs Ovarian cyst removed at DH Anantnag | | | Saahil Suhail

Anantnag, July 4: In a miraculous and rare surgery, Valley medicos removed a cyst weighing 22 kgs from the ovary of an 18-year-old girl suffering from a rare ovarian tumour at district Hospital on Saturday. A team of doctors headed by senior Consultant Surgeon and Urologist Dr Malik Azad which performed this rare surgery claimed that it was the largest ovarian tumour removal in the district hospital. Dr Azad Malik said, "Patient, named as Khalida Jan, from Brari Aangan village of Shangas was admitted after she complained severe abdominal pain, distention and also breathlessness. The patient was also suffering high grade fever and was facing severe difficulty in walking." Malik said that during the medical investigation carried out on patient a huge mass in her ovary was found. "Although the case was complicated, but keeping in view the patient's health," Dr Azad Malik said and added, "We decided to go ahead and operated patient today morning at a high risk and removed cyst weighing 22 kgs from the patient's ovary." "The surgical procedure took 45 minutes during which besides supplementary fluids the patient was also transfused four gms of blood," he added. Consultant Surgeon and Urologist Dr Malik Azad was assisted by Dr Firdos, Anesthesiast, Mohammad Latief, Mohammad Aslam, Mohammad Maqbool and G R Nadaf (Operation Theatre Assistants). Chief Medical Officer Anantnag Dr Fazil Kochak had congratulated Dr Malik and his team for handling such a complicated case. |
