LMD books 250 traders in Poonch, Charges Rs 16500 fine | | | Early Times Report
POONCH, July 4: Legal Metrology Department (LMD) has booked 250 traders in Poonch and realized Rs 16500 fine from them for violation of various norms. In view of the holy month of Ramazan, a team of officials from Legal Metrology Poonch under the supervision of Assistant Controller, Kewal Krishan conducted series of surprise raids at various trade establishments in Poonch Surankote and Mendhar towns. The team raided 250 trade premises such as sweet shops, provisional stores, bakeries, vegetables shops, poultry, ration depots and fruit stalls and other eating points and booked dozens of traders for violation of Legal Metrology laws. Several traders were booked for delivering less quantity of commodity to consumers while two firms were also fined for violating packaged commodity rules. Finding use of un-re-verified weights and measure instruments, the Assistant Controller compounded several cases on the spot and realized a sum of Rs. 16,500 as composition sum. The department has assured the public and warned the unscrupulous traders to refrain from fraudulent practice or face action under Legal Metrology Rules and Consumer Protection Act. Meanwhile, the Department has appealed to the general public to register their genuine complaints with the office of the Assistant Controller LMD, Poonch and assert their rights as vigilant consumers. |
